      Golden Corral made a strong showing in this weekend’s vausssa.com NIT in Petersburg, VA.  GC opened the weekend against Team Poison (VA).  This game saw GC blow an early lead and head into an extra inning, before pulling away in the top of the eighth in route to a 23-17 win.  Next up was the powerful USA Team Sports team from Maryland.  Neither team burned it up with the bats in this one, but USA managed to hang on for the 18-14 victory to send The Corral into the dreaded loser’s bracket.  GC met a high-scoring Homescape team from North Carolina.  As the weather cooled Saturday, the Golden Corral bats heated up.  A 12-run first and a 10-run third pushed the game out of reach early on and Homescape never recovered, as GC won the run-rule game 31-6.  Sunday morning was a big game for GC.  Awaiting them was the very strong Aheron Builders/Lions Lair (NC).  GC has had tough luck versus this outstanding team lately and wanted to change that.  However, it didn’t look good as Aheron’s first eight batters scored in the top of the first.  GC played catch up all game, trailing 15-1 and later 25-10.    But this was a well-played game by both teams, and GC just kept coming back.  A couple of superb plays in the infield held Aheron to only a 1-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh.  After two quick outs, The Corral managed to plate the two needed runs to cap off the exciting 32-31 win.    Next up was Awful Arthur’s (VA).   This one went back and forth in another offensive battle.   AA stepped up with eight huge runs in the top of the eighth and held on for a 32-29 victory.
