NSA Clash for Cash
Burlington, North Carolina
June 5, 2004
Golden Corral rolled
into Burlington, NC and was poised to take 2004s first Clash for Cash, only to let
it slip away at the end. In GCs first
game of the day, the opponent was Leroys Frame.
Golden Corral came out hot in this one with an 8-run first inning and never
let up en route to a four-inning 28-6 win. In
the next game, The Corral met North Carolina Stars who had shown the ability to put
up some big runs earlier in the day. GC took
the early lead only to see the Stars battle back in the top of the sixth. But, GC calmly plated 6 runs in the bottom half of
the inning to put the pressure firmly back on the Stars, who could only manage 2 runs in
the top of the seventh, making the final score 25-20, Golden Corral. In the next game, The Corral knew exactly what
they were facing in Alamance Mortgage. This
team finished 2nd in the loaded VAUSSSA.com NIT just two weeks ago in
Petersburg, VA. Golden Corral was up for the
challenge, consistently scoring runs throughout the game.
Alamance, as we knew they would, hit it well and had a big fourth inning,
but GC proved too strong in this one and pulled away for a 34-22 victory. This guaranteed that Golden Corral would play in
the one-game championship game, even though GC still had a game left in bracket play. This game was against a very strong Enforcers
team. GC more or less went through the
motions in this meaningless game and Enforcers hit it well to get the 20-10 win. Alamance Mortgage made it back to meet Golden
Corral for the Championship. The hard-hitting
Alamance squad jumped out to an early lead making GC play catch up the entire way. The Corral couldnt seem to catch a break in
this one. In a game of inches, GC had the
toughest luck all the way, while Alamance picked up the hits they needed. A late charge from Golden Corral came up just a
little short, as the game ended with the tying run on deck.
The final score, 26-21.
