After not being able to attend the B State last
year for lack of players, this year's squad was in much the same situation. The team
made the trip anyway, and started off looking pretty good. Golden Corral opened
versus a U.S. Marine based team from Langley. GC gave up 6 quick ones in the top of
the first, but got them back in the bottom of the second with a big 10-run inning that was
powered by big homeruns from Curtis Duffer and Wayne Mosley. Another shot from
Duffer and a blast from Tommy Crews in the sixth insured the victory in the opening game
by a 24-14 count. Kevin Henderson was 5 for 5 in the game, and Crews, Mosley, and
Tony Conner added 4 each to continuously set the table.
After the first game, GC was unable to hit the ball consistently to
score runs and dropped the next two games to Jimmy's Automotive from Bedford, VA and The
Rattlers from Hampton, VA, respectively.
